Breast cancer is the leading cause of death of women worldwide. In Egypt, people refrain from the use of the word cancer, referring to it as the bad disease and are frightened to speak openly about it.
With the taboo associated with the disease, the challenge has been to save lives by early detection —the majority of women with breast cancer in Egypt and in developing countries are diagnosed at an advanced stage which lowers their chances of survival.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Every year, breast cancer charities organize international health campaigns to raise awareness about the disease and raise funds for research.
AAIB going Pink
Pink — the color associated with breast cancer support. Our Sustainability Unit organize a breast cancer awareness day for all AAIB female staff in cooperation with the Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE), sharing information on the importance of early detection, prevention, risk factors and training on breast self-examinations (BSE). A female doctor was available at the AAIB clinic for on-request breast exams.
